what can you live without?
May 5, 2008For us to pursue our day to day life, we have our little treasures that we can’t live without, things that we must have in order to carry out our tasks, things that makes us who we are and things that are stuck to us.
As for me, the most valuable thing that I can’t live without is my glasses. I am myopic or near-sighted (in lay man’s term), without my glasses everything are mere speck of a blur. I can’t identify objects or persons 30m beyond me. Sadly, I am often mistaken to as a snob. How can I be a snob? I’m never a snob. It’s just that I have a visual problem and I have to get closer to you in order to identify you. It’s that bad. I’ve sworn to have my eyes lasered when I get abroad. I envy those who have 20/20 vision; they don’t need to be tangled up with this nerdy item just for them to visualize things. Glasses are truly a fashion NO-NO, but as for me, it’s either I’d succumb into the trend or suck up to my eye impairment in order to see. I’m caught from choosing to be fashionably blind or a geek with vision. It’s not big of a problem. After all it won’t cause another world war whatever number, to happen. It’s no biggy, it’s just a matter of me choosing luxury over necessity or necessity over luxury.
A number of people tend to or most often unknowingly disregard the value of their sight. Most often they try to strain it by reading in the dark or while they are on the road. How can they stand that? I have done that before and it made me regretful.
When I was in my preschool years, I really wanted to have eyeglasses, because during that time, I thought having one would make every one assume that I am smart. I’ve done everything for me to have one, until I really had one, not because I just want to sport it for me to look smart, but because I need it because things became blurry. At first it was gratifying, because I am spared from all of the excuses I have to make for me to own an eyeglass. But later on, I’ve learned about stuffs like geek, nerd, drip and bore. And these words are all related to having glasses. Slowly, my fondness for my precious eyeglasses became a dislike then eventually turned into bête-noir. It was a horror! I’d really like to be detached from this spell but unfortunately I can’t. Cautions like, “be careful on what you wish for,” are indeed factual. I should’ve yearned for something better. Anyway, thanks to contact lenses, I still can get away from being a fashion dupe. But contact lenses can’t bring you further than an eyeglass can. Wearing contact lenses is tedious; you have to have at least a 15-minute ritual before you can wear one. Aside from that, you can’t stare anyone on the eye for a longer period because your contacts will dry up. Also, you can’t face a windy spot, or else it will be blown away with it. So having contact lenses will just materialize for a short period, after that I would need to have my glasses on.
On the contrary, I am not whining about having an eye glasses on. In fact, I am grateful to the person who was able to invent this wondrous item, without it, I would’ve remained with in the restrictions of my visual capacity, which is not much. So don’t you dare say that I am a snob, I just have to wear my “spectacles” on so that I can merely decipher you.
crashed crush
Everyone in this world has been infatuated with someone, or I’d assume everyone is. Ever had that feeling of uneasiness whenever that person is around? Or mixed emotions maybe? We’ll that’s crushing, or again, I’m assuming. How would you feel when the object of your affection ends up with another person? Will you wallow? Will sulk in furiousness or sadness? As for me, neither. I’m just merely soliciting your thoughts.
me and CS
I was browsing the net and found a “HIRING” sign being highlighted. I clicked on it, thinking that they were searching for a blogger that would post something about them. Instead, I found a job vacancy for computer programmers and one qualification states that the aspirant should be good at C++. I’ve known that program before. I’ve had a year on computer programming but unfortunately being a programmer was not my thing. I just can’t make a decent or working program. It was tough. I’ve memorized the book and yet I always end up with twisted outputs. I was brought back to my CS years. Way back, we were just few among all who were brave enough to desire a profession that’s daunting (at least for me). We’re trying to figure out mathematical stuffs, from the numbers that we have to equate on college algebra, to integral calculus and up to the highest level of mathematical bewildering equations for programs to be existent. It was tough, often times I have to edit a classmate’s program just for me to comply with the assignment. It was demoralizing. It’s as if you’re brain was non-existent. I did not know then, what part of my brain to shake for my mathematical proficiency to awake. I did try to awaken it nonetheless; it remained dormant and limited upon the simple mathematical know-how that I have to delve in. So I decided to end up my dilemma and opted for something that frees me from my incapacity. My profession doesn’t totally liberate me from equations, I still encounter numbers, but they are the type that I can handle. Most often, these numbers are directly related to life. As a programmer numbers can be edited, but as a nurse, a number would mean life, which can’t be subjected to any editing.
poor
Why are people poor?
Poverty is a very melancholic word if being discussed. It will bring about thoughts such as malnutrition, poor sanitation and all forms of inadequacy in terms of food, education, clothing and barely all the basic necessities there is.
But why is poverty existent? Who causes poverty? What causes poverty?
Why?
When one is being given birth, he or she does not have the privilege of choosing his economic status in life. There are a few who are lucky to have been born to parents who are rich. There are some who are fortunate to have an average family who can at least provide them with their basic needs. There are a lot of those who are ill-fated to live a life at the lowest end of the hierarchy. As much as those at the lowest end would want to swap lives with those who are above them, but they can’t. Rarely, only a number of those hapless individuals have successfully made it to the decent peak. But for those who were fruitless, they remain undignified by the bitter truth of poverty.
Who?
Does anyone cause his or her own neediness? In a way, we do. Even if we were born poor, we still have the capacity to work and make a living. If one chooses to utilize the talent that has been given to him, then he will harness the sweet crops of his labor. But if he chooses to lay around waiting for luck to come by, then he’d remain “foodless” and needy.
What?
We govern own lives, if we chose to be contented with whatever we have then we’d remain the same. But if we will yearn for something more, things that are practically achievable and is being worked hard for, then we will live better lives.
